IMG_9130Never Say Can’t is not something you say or do; it is a frame of mind.  It means always giving your best effort.  Even if it doesn’t seem good enough or when motivation is lacking, get up and give your best anyway!

Never Say Can’t is perseverance, never giving up, setting goals and working to achieve them. Never Say Can’t is to believe in yourself and your teammates!  Never Say Can’t is learning to recognize your strengths, while continuing to improve your weaknesses; not just accepting them as something that cannot be accomplished.  Never Say Can’t is taking the initiative to be a strong individual, excelling in life and in the game of baseball.

When playing baseball and softball we learn to apply the “Never Say Can’t” frame of mind in every aspect of the game, and in life. The greatness of the game allows a hitter to fail 7 out of 10 times and still have a .300 batting average. A pitcher can have a 3-0 count on a batter and still come back with a strikeout. In baseball, and in life, any situation can lead to success.

“For out in the world you’ll find, success begins with a fellow’s will. It’s all in a state of mind.“

It’s All in a State of Mind

By Walter D. Wintle

If you think you are beaten, you are;
If you think you dare not, you don’t;
If you like to win, but you don’t think you can,
It’s almost a cinch you won’t.

If you think you’ll lose, you’re lost;
For out in the world you’ll find
Success begins with a fellow’s will;
It’s all in a state of mind.

For many a game is lost
Ere even a play is run,
And many a coward fails
Ere even his work is begun.

Think big, and your deed will grow;
Think small, and you’ll fall behind;
Think that you can, and you will;
It’s all in a state of mind.

If you think you are out-classed, you are;
You’ve got to think high to rise;
You’ve got to be sure of yourself before
You ever can win a prize.

Life’s battles don’t always go
To the stronger or faster man,
But sooner or later the man who wins
Is the man who thinks he can.
